While it is an ancient practice, abortion is one of the most divisive political issues of our day. What makes it so? We believe it is the fact that it is a moral issue… with moral consequences that almost everyone understands to be wrong.
Haqiqatdan ham, we believe it cuts deeper into our conscience than the other issues because it is the intentional killing of an innocent human being in the womb, which is diametrically opposed to our traditional Judeo-Christian Ethic and historical values.
The Catholic Church condemns the death penalty, but the death penalty does not involve innocent human life, nor does it occur anywhere near the rate that abortions occur.
It condemns abortion, ham, because is a brutal act that takes the smallest, most vulnerable of the human race and destroys the human being in the most painful and brutal of ways. We need not describe these barbarous methods here, lest we are accused of using emotion instead of logic.
We do ask, ammo, whether is it possible to imagine offending God in a more personal way? We suspect that God is offended by other large tragedies, like war, but understands and supports innocent nations defending themselves; Aslini olib qaraganda, the bible is full of examples of just wars.1 Abort, ammo, takes a helpless creature of God–regardless of circumstances of the pregnancy–and deliberately kills him or her without ever permitting them a chance to live and act on their own–make a single decision or action on their own.
Moral issues are sometimes difficult to quantify or measure, ya'ni,, goodness or evilness of behavior or the number of times that it occurs. We do know, ammo, that approximately 50,000,000 abortions have been legally performed in the United States since the infamous Roe v. Wade decision in 1973.
Fifty million lost lives. That figure has an effect on every other political issue that one wishes to consider, ham. Hozir, a misanthrope, who looks at people as burdens or potential burdens, may be gladdened by the fact that there are 50 million fewer people. ammo, if you look upon every soul as a gift from God, full of potential for good, so'ng 50 million deaths from abortion is a monumental tragedy.
A life is a life whether it is in or out of the womb. Shunday, please consider this, if were legal to terminate a child post birth–va 4,000 children were killed each day as with pre-birth abortions–would so many remain so passive and ambivalent? We doubt it.
- shuningdek, we suspect that God is offended by small tragedies and our behavior, vaqtlarda, ham. ↩
