செயின்ட் ஜானின் முதல் கடிதம் 2: 3-11

2:3 இதன் மூலம் நாம் அவரை அறிந்திருக்கிறோம் என்பதை உறுதியாக நம்பலாம்: நாம் அவருடைய கட்டளைகளைக் கடைப்பிடித்தால்.
2:4 அவரைத் தெரியும் என்று கூறுபவர், இன்னும் அவருடைய கட்டளைகளைக் கடைப்பிடிப்பதில்லை, ஒரு பொய்யர், மேலும் உண்மை அவனிடம் இல்லை.
2:5 ஆனால் யார் சொன்னாலும் அதைக் கடைப்பிடிக்கிறார்கள், உண்மையாகவே கடவுளின் தொண்டு அவருக்குள் பூரணமாக உள்ளது. இதனாலேயே நாம் அவருக்குள் இருக்கிறோம் என்பதை அறிவோம்.
2:6 Whoever declares himself to remain in him, ought to walk just as he himself walked.
2:7 மிகவும் பிரியமானவர், I am not writing to you a new commandment, but the old commandment, which you had from the beginning. The old commandment is the Word, which you have heard.
2:8 அப்புறம் கூட, I am writing to you a new commandment, which is the Truth in him and in you. For the darkness has passed away, and the true Light is now shining.
2:9 Whoever declares himself to be in the light, and yet hates his brother, is in the darkness even now.
2:10 Whoever loves his brother abides in the light, and there is no cause of offense in him.
2:11 But whoever hates his brother is in the darkness, and in darkness he walks, and he does not know where he is going. For the darkness has blinded his eyes.
