Reading

The Book of the Prophet Isaiah 3: 1-4, 4: 5- 6

3:1	Iată, Îmi trimit îngerul, și el va pregăti calea înaintea feței mele. Și în prezent Suveranul, pe care-l cauți, și îngerul mărturiei, pe care ii doresti, va ajunge la templul lui. Iată, el se apropie, zice Domnul oștirilor.
3:2	Și cine va putea lua în considerare ziua venirii sale, şi care va sta ferm ca să-l vadă? Căci el este ca un foc de rafinare, și ca iarba plinului.
3:3	Și va ședea și va curăța argintul, și el va curăți pe fiii lui Levi, și le va strânge ca aurul și ca argintul, și vor aduce Domnului jertfe cu dreptate.
3:4	Și jertfa lui Iuda și a Ierusalimului va fi plăcut Domnului, la fel ca în zilele generaţiilor trecute, şi ca în anii străvechi.

4:5	Iată, Îți voi trimite pe proorocul Ilie, înainte de sosirea zilei mari şi cumplite a Domnului.
4:6	Și va întoarce inima părinților către fii, şi inima fiilor către părinţii lor, ca să nu vin și să lovesc pământul cu anatemă.

Gospel

The Holy Gospel According to Luke 1: 57-66

1:57	Now the time for Elizabeth to give birth arrived, and she brought forth a son.
1:58	And her neighbors and relatives heard that the Lord had magnified his mercy with her, and so they congratulated her.
1:59	And it happened that, on the eighth day, they arrived to circumcise the boy, and they called him by his father’s name, Zaharia.
1:60	Și ca răspuns, his mother said: “Not so. In schimb, he shall be called John.”
1:61	Iar ei i-au spus, “But there is no one among your relatives who is called by that name.”
1:62	Then they made signs to his father, as to what he wanted him to be called.
1:63	And requesting a writing tablet, el a scris, zicală: “His name is John.” And they all wondered.
1:64	Apoi, at once, his mouth was opened, and his tongue loosened, and he spoke, blessing God.
1:65	And fear fell upon all of their neighbors. And all these words were made known throughout all the hill country of Judea.
1:66	And all those who heard it stored it up in their heart, zicală: “What do you think this boy will be?” And indeed, the hand of the Lord was with him.
