Lezing

The Book of the Prophet Isaiah 3: 1-4, 4: 5- 6

3:1	Zie, I send my angel, and he will prepare the way before my face. And presently the Sovereign, whom you seek, and the angel of testimony, whom you desire, will arrive at his temple. Zie, he approaches, says the Lord of hosts.
3:2	And who will be able to consider the day of his advent, and who will stand firm in order to see him? For he is like a refining fire, and like the fuller’s herb.
3:3	And he will sit refining and cleansing the silver, and he will purge the sons of Levi, and he will gather them like gold and like silver, and they will offer sacrifices to the Lord in justice.
3:4	And the sacrifice of Judah and of Jerusalem will please the Lord, just as in the days of past generations, and as in the ancient years.

4:5	Zie, I will send to you Elijah the prophet, before the arrival of the great and terrible day of the Lord.
4:6	And he will turn the heart of the fathers to the sons, and the heart of the sons to their fathers, lest I come and strike the earth with anathema.

The Holy Gospel According to Luke 1: 57-66

1:57	Nu was de tijd voor Elizabeth om te bevallen aangebroken, en zij baarde een zoon.
1:58	En haar buren en verwanten hoorden dat de Heer zijn barmhartigheid met haar groot had gemaakt, en dus feliciteerden ze haar.
1:59	En dat gebeurde, op de achtste dag, ze kwamen om de jongen te besnijden, en ze noemden hem bij zijn vaders naam, Zacharia.
1:60	En als reactie, zei zijn moeder: "Niet zo. In plaats van, hij zal Johannes heten.”
1:61	En ze zeiden tegen haar, "Maar er is niemand onder uw familieleden die met die naam wordt genoemd."
1:62	Toen maakten ze gebaren naar zijn vader, hoe hij wilde dat hij genoemd werd.
1:63	En het aanvragen van een schrijftablet, Hij schreef, gezegde: "Zijn naam is John." En ze vroegen zich allemaal af.
1:64	Dan, onmiddelijk, zijn mond ging open, en zijn tong verslapte, en hij sprak, God zegenen.
1:65	En angst viel op al hun buren. En al deze woorden werden bekend gemaakt in heel het bergland van Judea.
1:66	En al degenen die het hoorden, bewaarde het in hun hart, gezegde: 'Wat denk je dat deze jongen zal zijn?" En inderdaad, de hand des Heren was met hem.
