The First Letter of Saint Paul to the Corinthians 2: 1-5

2:1 U għalhekk, aħwa, when I came to you, announcing to you the testimony of Christ, I did not bring exalted words or lofty wisdom.
2:2 For I did not judge myself to know anything among you, except Jesus Christ, and him crucified.
2:3 And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and with much trembling.
2:4 And my words and preaching were not the persuasive words of human wisdom, but were a manifestation of the Spirit and of virtue,
2:5 so that your faith would not be based on the wisdom of men, but on the virtue of God.

Evanġelju

The Holy Gospel According to Luke 4: 16-30

4:16 U mar Nazaret, fejn kien trabba. U daħal fis-sinagoga, skond id-drawwa tiegħu, nhar is-Sibt. U qam biex jaqra.
4:17 U l-ktieb tal-profeta Isaija ngħatalu. U hekk kif ħareġ il-ktieb, sab il-post fejn kien miktub:
4:18 “L-Ispirtu tal-Mulej fuqi; minħabba din, hu midluni. Bagħatni biex nevanġelizza lill-foqra, biex tfejjaq il-kuntrit tal-qalb,
4:19 biex jippriedka l-maħfra lill-jasar u l-vista lill-għomja, biex jeħles lill-imkisser fil-maħfra, biex jippriedka s-sena aċċettabbli tal-Mulej u l-jum tat-tpattija.”
4:20 U meta kien irrumblat il-ktieb, reġa’ lura lill-ministru, u poġġa bilqiegħda. U l-għajnejn ta’ kulħadd fis-sinagoga kienu ffissati fuqu.
4:21 Imbagħad beda jgħidilhom, “F’din il-ġurnata, din l-iskrittura twettqet fis-smigħ tagħkom.”
4:22 And everyone gave testimony to him. And they wondered at the words of grace that proceeded from his mouth. U qalu, “Is this not the son of Joseph?”
4:23 U qalilhom: "Żgur, you will recite to me this saying, ‘Physician, heal yourself.’ The many great things that we have heard were done in Capernaum, do here also in your own country.”
4:24 Then he said: “Amen ngħidilkom, that no prophet is accepted in his own country.
4:25 In truth, Jien ngħidlek, there were many widows in the days of Elijah in Israel, when the heavens were closed for three years and six months, when a great famine had occurred throughout the entire land.
4:26 And to none of these was Elijah sent, except to Zarephath of Sidon, to a woman who was a widow.
4:27 And there were many lepers in Israel under the prophet Elisha. And none of these was cleansed, except Naaman the Syrian.”
4:28 And all those in the synagogue, malli tisma’ dawn l-affarijiet, were filled with anger.
4:29 And they rose up and drove him beyond the city. And they brought him all the way to the edge of the mount, upon which their city had been built, so that they might thrown him down violently.
4:30 But passing through their midst, telaq.
